Four vintage-style field watches with modern specifications expand Bremonts range of adventure tool watches.

The latest collection from Bremonts headquarters in Henley-on-Thames is the Terra Nova, debuting four watches inspired by military pocket watches from the early 20th century. Bremont is now run by CEO Davide Cerrato, and the Terra Nova series he oversees is a test for him. Featuring a sturdy cushion-shaped case, oversized crown, vintage details and exceptional legibility, the Terra Nova debuts a time-only model, time and date display, compass bezel with power reserve and chronograph.
Common feature
The new model replaces Bremonts earlier Terra Nova series and retains the simplicity, sturdiness, functionality and practicality of the military field watches of yesteryear. By researching pocket from the early 20th century, Cerratos idea was to imbue the collection with an authentic sense of historical origin and reinterpret it with 21st century design and specifications.
To evoke the look of a military field watch, all four models feature a stainless steel cushion-shaped case with a slim profile and tapered lugs. The case back is sealed and decorated with a map of the earth, ensuring the case is 100m waterproof. The large push-down crown is engraved with the brands new Wayfinder compass rose symbol, a reference to field watches of the past that often required glove operation. The application of 3D Super-LumiNova block numerals enhances visibility, while faceted pencil hands add a vintage touch.
All four watches feature linear gradient dials, an intermittent railway minute track with 3D SLN hour markers, and a newly developed quick-release system that allows the stainless steel bracelet to be exchanged for a leather strap. More complicated models also feature black and gray NATO-style straps woven on 18th-century French jacquard looms (is this reminiscent of Cerratos time in the Tudors?).
Terranova 38
The simplest in the range is the Terra Nova 38, with hour and minute functions. The two-piece stainless steel case is 38 mm in diameter, 10.7 mm thick, and 44 mm long. Its round, cushion-shaped case features mostly satin-brushed areas, in keeping with the utilitarian ethos of the collection. However, the polished finish of the bezel and crown is eye-catching. The case features low-profile, short lugs and is ergonomically designed to sit flush on the wrist.
Available in gradient anthracite or white dials, the oversized Arabic vintage-style numerals are cut from blocks of beige vintage-hued Super-LumiNova, which glow green in the dark. The pencil hour and minute hands, as well as the hourly 3D hour markers (dots and triangles) scattered along the railway minute track, are also coated with Super-LumiNova. The dial features the words Bremont, Terra Nova, Automatic and London printed in contrasting colors, while the new Wayfinder symbol is positioned at noon. A domed, anti-reflective, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the dial.

The new Terra Nova Date is available with an anthracite or green gradient dial, featuring 3D Super-LumiNova block numerals and green luminous hour markers (vintage SLN on anthracite dial, white SLN on green). The Terra Nova Date features a copper-colored central seconds hand that contrasts with polished rhodium-plated hour and minute hands, and a date aperture with a white background at 3 oclock.

The most complicated model is the Terra Nova chronograph. It features a notched, bi-directional, rotating black polished ceramic bezel and stopwatch function. Like the Terra Nova Turning Bezel model, the chronographs bezel is engraved with the essential logo. The 42.5mm stainless steel case is 14.8mm thick and features satin-brushed chronograph pushers on the side of the crown.
Available only in black, the dial has oversized Arabic numerals and hour markers cut from vintage-hued Super-LumiNova.
